Since 1996, the Year Round Program has helped triathletes reach their goals successfully.

International Management Group (IMG), the world's leading sports and entertainment marketing company and Hainan World Ltd., a Hong Kong based company dedicated to promoting Hainan Island as a quality tourist destination, today announced the formal launch of China's first world-class destination triathlon, the Hainan Discovery Triathlon. The event will be staged at beautiful Yalong Bay, Sanya, Hainan Island, China on November 9, 2002 and will feature a 1.8km swim, 55km bike and 12km run.

The event will provide a US$20,000 prize purse for the top five men's and women's professional athletes. The event will, in the coming weeks, announce the names of a host of top triathlon stars from around the world who will compete in the professional category along-side China's best.

Amateur age-group triathletes from Asia, including China, are expected to compete for Championship honors in the open categories.

Categories include: Men's Professional, Women's Professional, Men's Open, Women's Open, Mainland Chinese- Men's, Mainland Chinese Women's and Team (relay), where three athletes each compete in only one of the three sports. The team category has been created to open the event to athletes proficient in one or two of the triathlon sports.

The Hainan Discovery Triathlon has appointed Murphy Reinschreiber (agent to the stars) as Race Director. Based in San Diego, California, Murphy is one of the world's most respected Race Directors. He has over ten years of experience working in the Asia Pacific Region as the Race Director of China's Mild Seven Outdoor Quest, Thailand's Laguna Phuket Triathlon and the National Geographic Action Asia Challenge Series in Hong Kong, Malaysia and Taiwan.

The Hainan Discovery Triathlon will be produced for television by Trans World International (TWI), the television division of IMG. TWI will produce a 30-minute television special of the event for distribution globally in markets that include Europe, the USA, Asia and China.

The Hainan Discovery Triathlon will provide special travel and accommodation arrangements for the competitors to ensure a hassle free triathlon weekend. All participants will be invited to join the Pasta Party as well as the post race Awards Dinner Celebration.

Known as the Hawaii of China for its beautiful scenery, white sand beaches, and resort hotels, Hainan Island is also an ideal place for sport, entertainment and cultural discovery. If you're tiring of the same old triathlon schedule and want a taste of the truly exotic, this could be your ticket.
