Posing after the big event
Team Multisports.com Cleans up in Local Bike RaceLining up in their team Multisports.com colors, Heather and Paula threw their hats in the ring of the Camp Pendleton Bike Road Race. Never having done a road race before, the two were more interested in getting in a good workout rather than mixing it up with the roadies, but they couldn’t help themselves. Starting out in the female wave which was at best 30 riders strong, Paula shot off the front from the gun. Getting some early tips from a former winner Pam Jorgensen, it was decided that the pace should be strong from the start to weed out the field– NO PROBLEM!!! Within about 200yards, Paula had the field strung out, definitely weeding out the weaker riders. The front group consisted of about 7-10 riders until the first hill and then it was down to 5. By the time the second hill came, which was a pretty long one, the lead group whittled down again to 3 – Paula, Heather and Tina Eakin. It was pretty clear that Paula and Heather were going to have to do the majority of the work in the group but that was fine – what better way to get in a good workout. After switching back and forth, it came down to the final mile or two and Paula took the pull of her life, setting Heather up for the upcoming sprint. With the final turn in view, Paula pulled off and Tina sprinted around the corner, Heather responded and sprinted past Tina to take the win. Team Multisports.com was victorious – Paula was the perfect lead out man and Heather took the sprint.
Even though it was a blast, I think these girls might stick with triathlon.
