Dick Severs stands along side photos of all 18 previous Sickies of the sea swims. Dick has been a member of the UCSD Masters Triathlon group for 4 years from the first day it started in 1996.

Cathy Blomgren and friend. Great to see Cathy up and smiling. She was literally run over by a SUV in April is on her way to full recovery. We love ya Cathy!

Paul, Kelly and Sickie. The original three.

Sickie taking a moment before the swim. Yup, it's a wonderful place.

19th annual "Sickies of the sea" cove-pier-cove swim.

Know as "Sickie", Ron Marsickic (spelling?) has been an icon in the swimming world for the past twenty odd years in the San Diego area. You name the swimmer or triathlete; he has coached them in the water. Remember Team J David? Sickie was the swim coach for the famous professional Triathlon team in the early 80's. He's the guy who taught the likes of Mark Allen, Scott Tinley and Kathleen McCartney during their early Ironman years.

For the past 19 years he has been holding a casual gathering of his friends and people he coaches-UCSD Masters Swim team (one in the same as he is a great friend to all of his swimmers) at the cove in La Jolla for a fun little swim across and back. Did I say little swim? Sorry, I meant to say a 3-mile rough water swim. This year was the 19th annual outing and we lucked out with water temps of 70 degrees and mostly calm waters.

It was a blast this year as always. Look for the 20th annual Sickies of the sea cove-pier-cove next July!
